WE NEED FRESH LEADERSHIP TO GET PASADENA BACK ON TRACK
Pasadena needs leadership that cares. I’m running for City Council because we need to make sure City Hall is responsive to our community’s concerns.
Joe Baghdadlian has lived the quintessential American immigrant success story. When the love of his life moved to the US with her family, Joe knew that he needed to join her. Arriving in California in 1973, he and his wife Hourig married later that year. Joe used his experience fixing cars to land a job where he worked hard, long hours in a garage. Soon, he would start his own business, expanding it into one of the premier providers of auto body work in Pasadena. Today, his family operates Symes Collision Center (part of the Syme’s Cadillac and Land Rover automotive family) and Joe’s Auto Body Collision Center (part of the Thorson Buick GMC automotive family), both on Colorado Boulevard in District 4. Joe and Hourig have been happily married for 45 years, and they have been blessed with four amazing children and five beautiful grandchildren.
Joe is deeply concerned by how our public education system continues to lose students and staff, and even considers closing schools. His own grandchild has been impacted by these cuts. He has been alarmed by how many small and mid-size businesses in this city are being squeezed or even shuttered, leaving buildings vacant for years to become a source of blight. Joe shares the frustrations of Pasadena citizens who have seen development run amok, with poor planning and design that has led to traffic nightmares. District 4 is now the second-highest source for calls to the police, and homelessness is on the rise throughout Pasadena.
Joe believes that many of the city’s challenges can be overcome by truly listening to its residents, studying the issues thoroughly, and taking a proactive, solutions-oriented approach. That is how he built a successful business—listening to his customers’ needs and figuring out the best way to address them. Joe is a hands-on, decisive and respected leader with boundless energy. Above all, he is someone who will make sure that his district’s voice is heard. He thoroughly enjoys spending time with his neighbors and fellow Pasadena residents, and plans to meet with constituents frequently through regular events he will host. Leaders must be respected to get things done, and Joe’s approach and demeanor have consistently generated respect among his many happy customers and business partners.
Joe would be the first to acknowledge how others helped him along the path towards building a successful family and business. This intimate understanding of how opportunities are harnessed, and the gratitude he feels towards our community and country, inspire in him a profound sense of duty to give back. That is why he has volunteered with organizations such as the LA County Sheriff’s Department, LA Children’s Hospital, the Pasadena Unified School District, and his neighborhood association. Now, he wants to serve the community full time as a Pasadena City Councilman.
